Aboriginal Health Program

We work together with First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities to maintain and improve the health of Aboriginal people living on Vancouver Island and surrounding areas.

It's time to create the Aboriginal Health Plan for 2017-2022. Thanks for your input!

We are now working with the Steering Committee to develop the plan. The Steering Committee is comprised of representatives from First Nations, Métis Chartered Communities, Friendship Centres and Island Health.

We wanted to hear from First Nations, Métis, urban Aboriginal communities and care providers to find out what’s working, what can be improved, and to develop a plan for the next five years ahead.

To involve community members in our plan to help shape the future of health care delivery for Aboriginal Peoples in the health region, we held seven community sessions  in Victoria, Tofino, Port Alberni, Duncan, Nanaimo, Campbell River, Port Hardy April – May 2016 and an online survey which closed on June 10. Sessions focused on the health of First Nations, Métis and urban Aboriginal communities.

Thank you to everyone who participated in person and online! We are busy compiling your responses and have contacted the random prize draw winners!
