Diabetes is one of the leading causes of illness among aboriginal people. The Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) Aboriginal Health Diabetes Nurse Educator helps aboriginal people living with diabetes understand their disease better.
The diabetes nurse educator can direct you to health services for diabetes treatment, or come to your home to help you learn about:
healthy eating;
active living;
testing blood sugars;
understanding medications; and
care of your heart, eyes, feet and kidneys.
