Working with the Board of Directors, and led by President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Brendan Carr, the executive team is responsible for meeting the health needs of the population of the region in an effective and sustainable manner.
In collaboration with the BC Ministry of Health, the executive team establishes performance objectives regarding the delivery of health care, and works to ensure those goals are met or exceeded.
Director, Office of the President & CEO
Ann Bozoian joined Island Health in May 2005, fulfilling the responsibilities of Director to the Office of the President and CEO.
Ann has worked in the public sector for over 20 years, and prior to joining Island Health she held the position of Executive Director, Corporate Planning and Performance with the Ministry of Management Services.
Dr. Brendan Carr

Dr. Brendan Carr was appointed to the role of President and Chief Executive Officer on August 6, 2013. He has worked with Island Health since March 2012 as the Executive Vice President & Chief Medical Officer.
Vice President & Chief Information Officer
Catherine Claiter-Larsen joined Island Health in August 2005.
As Vice President, Quality Systems and Chief Information Officer, Catherine is responsible for advancing the infrastructure that enables excellence at Island Health. Catherine provides strategic oversight for major quality systems capital projects, including IHealth, Island Health’s transformational Electronic Health Record (EHR) initiative, and the Unit Dose Medication Distribution project. Catherine is also responsible for Island Health’s strategic relationship with Cerner, the ORCAH Institute, which aims to improve population health through innovation using Island Health’s Cerner-based EHR.
Executive Vice President & Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Etherington comes to us from Interior Health (IH) where he has served as the VP Medicine and Quality since 2010. In this role he provided leadership in the areas of medical administration, quality improvement, clinical and enterprise risk management, accreditation, infection prevention and control, ethics, clinical networks, and was the IH academic liaison with the Southern Medical Program.
Vice President, Corporate Services & Chief Financial Officer
Kim Kerrone assumed the position of Vice President & Chief Financial Officer in June 2013.
Kim is responsible for strategic and operational management of the Corporate Services portfolio leading the areas of Finance, Legal Services, Contracts and Policy Standards, Human Resources and Staff Scheduling. In this role, Kim provides leadership in the development of new service delivery models to support effective and efficient operations and encourages the innovative use of technology to improve business processes.
Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer
In the role of Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer is Catherine Mackay. She works in partnership with the Chief Medical Officer to co-lead operations within the four geographies and three portfolios. Together they provide leadership in all aspects of planning, operation and evaluation of health service programs as well as provide support and direction to the Island Medical Program.

Kathy provides strategic leadership to enhance the patient experience, advance clinical quality, and promote employee and physician engagement in order to achieve excellence in health and care.

Vice President, Operations and Support Services
James provides strategic and operational leadership in the areas of Facilities Maintenance, Design and Construction, Biomedical Engineering, Materiels Management, Protection Services, House Keeping, Food Services, Laundry and Logistics.
In this role James leads a diverse and integrated team focused on enhancing Island Health’s physical infrastructure and support services to improve our patients’ experience and ensure system sustainability.

As Chief Professional Practice & Chief Nursing Officer Dawn plays a key role in supporting clinical programs to deliver the highest quality health and care to the people we serve.
Vice President and Chief, Communications and Public Relations
Toni O'Keeffe was appointed to the position of Vice President and Chief Communications and Public Relations in 2012. Toni has been a professional communications and public relations practitioner for over twenty-five years, a field of work that she loves.
In her role as Vice President Communications and Public Relations, she is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to a diverse range of communication functions including: communications planning, issues management, media relations, health promotion, partnership development, government relations, community relations, and web and social media engagement.
Chief Medical Health Officer
Dr. Stanwick was appointed the position of Chief Medical Health Officer for Island Health in December 2001.
Dr. Stanwick was the Medical Health Officer for the Capital Regional District (CRD) from 1995 to 1997, a position that expanded to include Director of Research when the function amalgamated to the Capital Health Region (CHR) in 1997.
