James Hanson

Vice President, Operations and Support Services

As Vice President, Operations and Support Services James provides strategic and operational leadership in the areas of Facilities Maintenance, Design and Construction, Biomedical Engineering, Materiels Management, Protection Services, House Keeping, Food Services, Laundry and Logistics. In this role James leads a diverse and integrated team focused on enhancing Island Health’s physical infrastructure and support services to improve our patients’ experience and ensure system sustainability.

Since joining Island Health in 2005, James has held several leadership roles, beginning in 2007 with a position as Manager of Security Systems, where he directed the implementation and maintenance of physical security technology. In 2009 James became Corporate Director of Protection Services, leading a team focused on providing excellence in security, parking and physical security systems. Two portfolios were merged in 2012, and James assumed leadership responsibility as the Corporate Director of Logistics and Operations, which delivers services such as non-emergent patient transportation, print management and logistics.

James holds two Associate of Arts degrees from Camosun College and completed his Bachelor degree in Sociology from the University of Victoria, as well as a graduate certificate in Project Management and a Master’s in Business Administration from Royal Roads University. James remains active in academia through Royal Roads University where he reviews MBA theses on behalf of the School of Business and has recently been appointed as a Board Member for Lymphoma Canada, a nationwide non-profit focused on empowering all those affected by the cancer.

James has lived on Vancouver Island since 1986 and most weekends can be found enjoying the Island’s abundant parks alongside his wife, either on a paddleboard or walking their two Siberian Huskies.
