March 9, 2017

Vancouver Island - We’ve done it again! Island Health has been named one of BC’s top employers.

The BC Top Employer 2017 list is selected by Mediacorp Canada Inc. The official announcement was made in the Vancouver Sun this morning.

“Congratulations Island Health on this deserved distinction,” said Health Minister Terry Lake. “Delivering excellence in client and patient care begins with a healthy, dynamic and thriving work environment where employees are challenged and supported.”

Island Health is no stranger to this prestigious list which identifies organizations that lead their industries in eight categories: Physical Workplace, Work Atmosphere/Social, Health/Financial & Family Benefits, Vacation & Time-Off, Employee Communications, Performance Management/Training & Skills Development and Community Involvement.

We have been honoured as one of Canada’s Top Employers and one of BC’s Top Employers on many occasions.

Island Health has a staff of more than 20,000 who provide health care to 765,000 people. The geographical reach of Island Health includes Vancouver Island, the islands of the Georgia Strait and mainland communities north of Powell River and south of Rivers Inlet.

“We have 19,000 reasons to be heartened by this recognition,” said Island Health Board Chair Don Hubbard. “Island Health is committed to retaining and supporting our employees. We must also continue to strive to be a workplace that attracts highly-skilled and motivated newcomers.”

“Our dedicated employees consistently deliver exceptional work,” Island Health’s President & CEO Dr. Brendan Carr said proudly. “Quality, collaboration, innovation and respect are the hallmarks of what we do. It is rewarding to be celebrated for our efforts.”
