SAANICHTON – The Vancouver Island Health Authority has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the design and construction of an Interfaith Chapel at Saanich Peninsula Hospital.
“Saanich Peninsula Hospital is a key part of our community, providing much-needed health care services for residents on the Saanich Peninsula and Gulf Islands,” said Murray Coell, MLA for Saanich North and Islands. “The addition of a chapel will help the hospital provide for the emotional and spiritual well-being of patients, in addition to the best possible physical care.”
The RFP calls for structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical consultants to provide design work for the 300-meter addition to the north side of the hospital, adjacent to the entrance to the residential care facility. The preliminary cost estimate for the project is $900-thousand.
“VIHA would like to thank the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation for funding this project in its entirety,” said Jac Kreut, VIHA Board Chair. “The foundation recognized that the current chapel at the hospital is inadequate – it is not wheelchair accessible, and is too small to accommodate patients who participate in weekly services, which are currently held in the dining room.”
“Thanks to the support of our donors, we have raised $1,000,000 said Lorne Jack, Foundation Board President. “Donors directed this money to our chapel fund, and we are pleased to be moving ahead with the chapel they envisioned for patients and families at SPH. We are particularly grateful to two donors who together contributed more than $600-thousand dollars toward this much needed spiritual respite at the hospital.”
The RFP is posted on the BCBID website, www.bcbid.ca (Posting Reference RFP-SPH-CHAPEL).
