NANAIMO – The Vancouver Island Health Authority’s Mental Health and Addictions program has issued an RFP as they seek to establish a strengths-based supportive recovery house for women in Nanaimo.
A Request For Proposals is now posted on the BC BID website at: http://www.bcbid.gov.bc.ca/open.dll/welcome (P3-RFP-295). The RFP calls for proposals for an operator to be responsible for providing a caring home-like supportive environment, staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All referrals to the residence will be through Nanaimo Mental Health and Addictions Services.
“Continued support is a critical step for women dealing with these issues and to ensure their recovery is successful and sustained,” says Parksville-Qualicum MLA Ron Cantelon. “Nanaimo is a very nurturing community and I am confident that a qualified proponent will come forward.”
The Communities Addiction Resource Society (CARS) formerly managed these services and with VIHA, mutually agreed to terminate the current contract.
“The services provided by CARS in the past have been profoundly important and we want to acknowledge their hard work and commitment,” said Marg Fraser, Manager of Nanaimo Mental Health and Addictions Services.
The supportive recovery model is an important component of the continuum of services to support clients in recovery from addiction and provides assistance with relearning the skills for independent living. This program will continue the same service level of 6 beds staffed 24 hours a day.
The contract will run until March 31, 2011 and will be renewable upon successful performance, demonstration of effectiveness and utility, and available funding of the service.
