“We are receiving an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from youth using BoosterBuddy who have told us how much of a difference it is making in their lives,” said Lauren Fox, Island Health Occupational Therapist and clinical lead for BoosterBuddy.
Island Health created the popular app in collaboration with teens and young adults with lived experience. It is designed to help youth manage personal wellness and earn achievement using a gamified approach.
A sidekick, or buddy, guides the user through a series of daily quests – focused on coping skills, self-care, socialization and more – in order to establish and maintain positive habits.
BoosterBuddy has sky-rocketed on Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram and the app is the subject of several positive user-created blog reviews. One recent Tumblr blog entry has received more than 121,000 “notes” (likes and re-blogs).
One BoosterBuddy fan wrote:
“Helps! Really useful. I'm 21 and I really like it. It's a cute and playful app but very useful and suitable for teens and adults alike! Love all the coping skills listed and the cute animals that encourage you!!! I highly recommend it for anybody with mental illness who wants to be motivated to heal!”
BoosterBuddy is made possible through generous support from Coast Capital Savings to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation’s Building Care Together campaign.
