State-of-the-Art X-Ray Equipment Coming to Cowichan District Hospital

October 27, 2010

DUNCAN – The installation of new, state-of-the-art digital x-ray equipment will soon be underway in the Medical Imaging Department at Cowichan District Hospital.

The new digital x-ray equipment will greatly improve image quality. It has direct digital image capture capabilities for faster patient turnaround time and it is height adjustable for better patient and staff ergonomics.

The cost of the new equipment will be about $600,000 and is being shared 60/40 by the Province, through the Vancouver Island Health Authority, and the Cowichan Valley Regional Hospital District.

The equipment installation will begin November 1 and take about two months to complete. To accommodate this work, the hours of operation for outpatient walk-in x-ray services at CDH will temporarily change. Effective November 1, 2010 the new hours are:

Monday – Friday: 12 Noon to 7 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 8 a.m. 3 p.m.
Closed on statutory holidays

To accommodate outpatients wanting to have x-ray procedures done earlier in the day, hours of operation at Mill Bay X-Ray will temporarily change. Effective November 1, 2010 the new hours are:

Monday to Friday 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Closed Saturday, Sunday and statutory holidays

Outpatients presenting at Cowichan District Hospital for x-rays are advised that emergency patients are given priority and therefore outpatients may encounter longer waits than usual for x-ray services. Outpatients can also receive x-ray services at:

CHEMAINUS X-RAY
Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.
Closed Saturday, Sunday and statutory holidays

Or

LADYSMITH X-RAY
Monday to Friday, 9:15 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Closed Saturday, Sunday and statutory holidays.

The Vancouver Island Health Authority appreciates the patience of clients over the next two months while work to improve x-ray services at Cowichan District Hospital is completed.
