CAMPBELL RIVER – The Vancouver Island Health Authority is pleased to announce the expansion of clinical services at Campbell River Hospital to include speech language pathology and social work.
“Providing safe, timely care to patients is a key priority for VIHA,” said Howard Waldner, VIHA’s President and CEO. “These new services will benefit patients by providing timely in-hospital care as well as supporting safe discharge home with appropriate community supports in place.”
Employment opportunities for a Speech Language Pathologist and a Social Worker are now posted on the VIHA website, www.viha.ca. The successful applicants will be located at Campbell River Hospital.
The new speech language pathology program will focus on communications disorders working with in-patients at Campbell River Hospital and adult outpatients from Campbell River, the Comox Valley and Mt. Waddington. It will also complement the Stroke Recovery Initiative already in place at Campbell River Hospital. The social work program will focus on both adult and pediatric in-patients.
“These are brand new clinical services for Campbell River Hospital,” said Linda Latham, Director, Community Hospitals. “These two disciplines will be welcome additions to the hospital’s health care team.” Both of these positions are being funded through budget reallocations within VIHA’s Rehabilitation Program and are in addition to current service and staffing levels. Speech language pathology and social work services are expected to be in place at Campbell River Hospital by Fall 2009.
