Lead Proponent Announced for Redevelopment of Oak Bay Lodge and Mt. Tolmie Hospital

May 17, 2010
VICTORIA – The Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) is pleased to announce that it will commence negotiations with the Baptist Housing Society for the renewal of residential services at Oak Bay Lodge and Mt Tolmie Hospital.

The Baptist Housing Society is a not-for-profit agency that has been providing care to seniors in a variety of residential settings for over 40 years. In Victoria, the society owns and operates 230 publicly funded complex care beds at the Central Care Home and Mt Edwards Court. They also provide 50 subsidized assisted living units at Marrion Village.

The naming of the Baptist Housing Society as the preferred proponent follows an extensive evaluation of proposals received in response to a Request for Proposals (RFP) issued by VIHA in November 2009. Six proposals were received in response to the RFP that called for 320 or more complex care beds and up to 100 units of licensed dementia housing on one or more sites.

The next stage in the process is to begin negotiations with the Baptist Housing Society – a process that would be expected to culminate in a project agreement later this spring. The purpose of the negotiation is to finalize the project cost and details, including location. Details of the proposal will be shared publicly once a final agreement has been reached and a contract is signed.
