Province Announces New VIHA Board Chair

November 26, 2010

VICTORIA - The provincial government today announced the appointment of Don Hubbard of Nanaimo as the new chair for the Vancouver Island Health Authority Board of Directors.

"I am very pleased that Don has accepted the role of board chair for VIHA," announced Health Services Minister Kevin Falcon. "VIHA has many projects underway and a strong vision for the future. I am confident that Don will bring fresh ideas and a wealth of experience to the position. I would also like to thank Jac Kreut for nine years of dedicated service as the outgoing board chair."

Hubbard is president of Hubbard Consulting and was previously general manager of the Northwest Division with Lafarge North America. Currently, he is a member of the Malaspina University College Foundation, a national director and former B.C. council chair of Ducks Unlimited and a fundraiser for Haven House.

"Don has been very active in the island community over the years," said Howard Waldner, VIHA CEO and president. "I know that the board and executive at VIHA will join me in welcoming Don to the team."

Previously, Hubbard served as a Vancouver Island chair for the Premier’s Advisory Committee on Climate Action, a chair and director on Malaspina University College Governance Board, a treasurer for the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance and a B.C. national director with the Canadian Technical Asphalt Association.

VIHA provides health care to more than 750,000 people on Vancouver Island, the Islands of the Georgia Strait, and in the mainland communities north of Powell River and south of Rivers Inlet.

Hubbard replaces outgoing board chair Jac Kreut, who has held the position of chair of the VIHA board of directors since 2001. The effective date for the new board chair is Dec. 9, 2010.
