Duncan – Cowichan District Hospital’s new $2-million Pharmacy is now fully operational, with a ceremony held today to celebrate its official opening.
The new pharmacy has doubled the existing space from 130 square metres to 260 square metres and will improve patient and staff safety.
“This is fantastic news for the hospital staff and our patients as well as the entire Community,” said Jim Potts, pharmacy manager at CDH.
In addition to having expanded space the new area provides a separate waiting and counseling area to ensure privacy; provides secure storage and counter and reception areas; and has two sterile preparation and chemo preparation areas, both containing biohazard fume hoods.
“Our Foundation has once again enjoyed working with this generous community and we are pleased to have contributed equipment for this new pharmacy”, said Meryle Hilberry, Chair.
“As a partner in making improvements to our hospital, we are pleased to be here to actually see and witness the benefits the new pharmacy will bring to this community”, said Gerry Giles, Chair, Cowichan Valley Regional Hospital District.
The new CDH pharmacy project was announced in April 2009 by the Province as part of an overall, three-year, $14-billion capital infrastructure program.
