RFP released for development of long-term care beds in the Comox Valley

September 30, 2016

COMOX VALLEY – Island Health is making a significant investment in health and care in the Comox Valley with the issuing today of a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking up to 70 new and replacement residential care beds for seniors and other people who need residential care.

The RFP seeks submissions from proponents to own and operate the new and replacement beds for the Comox Valley. Residential care beds provide 24/7 care and support for people with complex care needs who are no longer able to live at home independently or with supports. This includes the frail and elderly, and those with dementia, whose needs may change over time.

Island Health will provide annual operating funding through a service agreement with the successful proponent. The exact number of beds will be known once proposals are received and evaluated.

The RFP closes on December 16, 2016. Island Health expects a contract will be awarded in April 2017 with construction estimated to begin in the summer of 2017 with the beds opening in early summer 2019.
