Island Health welcomes the appointment of Marilyn Joan (M.J.) Whitemarsh to its Board of Directors.
“It is a pleasure to welcome M.J. Whitemarsh to Island Health’s board,” said Health Minister Terry Lake. “Her extensive experience in business, combined with her commitment to public service, will be valuable assets as we work to continually improve the overall health of our population.”
“M.J.’s background in public service, her solid management perspective and strong commitment to community partnerships will be wonderful additional resources to our board,” said Don Hubbard, Board Chair.
M.J. brings over 35 years of senior management experience to Island Health’s board including in-depth knowledge of board governance, strategic planning, leadership, audit and finance. She is an experienced board member, currently serving as Director, Audit Committee Chair and Governance Committee member for the Industry Training Authority (ITA); Governor and Tributes Committee Chair for the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT); Director, Small Business Round Table (SBRT); Director, Technology Education & Career Council, (TECC) and is a member of several advisory councils including the building committee at her church.
M.J. and her husband Bill live in Sooke where they operate a consulting business to the technology, health, resource and home building industries.
Board members for the health authorities in British Columbia are appointed by the provincial government and are chosen for their skills and backgrounds, decision-making abilities and interest in capacity building. Members generally serve two years that can be renewed.
