January 5, 2018

NANAIMO — If your New Year’s resolution is to quit smoking, Dr. Derek Poteryko can help.

Dr. Poteryko, the Medical Director of Community Health for Nanaimo, is offering a Quit Smoking for Good workshop on Wednesday, Jan. 10. His goal is to get people started on a healthier path by Weedless Wednesday, which falls on Jan. 24.

“Weedless Wednesday is a day when those who smoke can challenge themselves not to smoke,” said Dr. Poteryko. “Kicking the nicotine habit can significantly improve a person’s overall health, and this workshop provides key strategies to help do that.”

Quit Smoking for Good is part of an ongoing lifestyle choices series created through a partnership between Island Health and the City of Nanaimo.

The class is free to attend and runs from 6-8 pm on Jan. 10 at the Beban Park Social Centre at 2300 Bowen Road.  Pre-registration is available through the City of Nanaimo’s Activity Guide.

To register in advance call (250) 756-5200.
