Update – Oceanside Primary Care/Urgent Care Centre

October 12, 2010

NANAIMO - Following the announcement by the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) on June 30, 2010 that the health authority would be entering into contract negotiations with Stanford Place Holdings Ltd. to develop urgent care and primary care services in Oceanside, VIHA is pleased to provide the following update today:

An initial, informal meeting involving representatives from Stanford Place Holdings and VIHA took place in August. A follow up, more formal meeting took place last week.  At this meeting it was agreed that:

  • A detailed service delivery plan for the primary care/urgent care centre will be developed by late November. This plan will contain information such as scope of project, service details, financial requirements and site options.
  • Once the service delivery plan has been approved by VIHA, a contract will be negotiated and awarded by the end of the 2010 calendar year.
  • Based on the details in the service delivery plan, drawings will then be finalized and the permit process will follow. This process is expected to take several months.
  • Once all the permits have been approved, it is expected construction would take 8 to 12 months, with the new facility opening late Summer 2012.

“The primary care/urgent care centre is extremely important to me and the community I serve,” said Ron Cantelon, MLA Parksville-Qualicum. “I am deeply committed to this project and very pleased to see these firm timelines are now in place.”

VIHA and Stanford Place Holdings have assembled a team of specialists to oversee the project. The team includes specialists in construction and project management, service delivery models and primary care.

“VIHA looks forward to continuing to work with our community partners to enhance health care services in Oceanside,” said Howard Waldner, President and CEO, VIHA. “We recognize the community’s interest in this project and are committed to creating accessible, sustainable primary/urgent care services in the area.”

Stanford Place Holdings Ltd. is a partnership of Lark Group and Ahmon Group.
