Update on RFP Process for Improved Primary Health Care in Oceanside

June 16, 2010

OCEANSIDE - The Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) is pleased to provide a community update on the Request for Proposals (RFP) process for improved Primary Health Care for Oceanside residents.

“I appreciate that the process is moving forward in a way that meets the needs and wishes of the Oceanside community,” says Parksville-Qualicum MLA Ron Cantelon.

The RFP was posted on the BC Bid website on February 5, 2010 and called for an external partner to design, build, finance and partially operate a Primary Health Care & Urgent Care facility to serve Oceanside and the surrounding area.

Five proponents were invited to submit proposals including Thornley Holdings Ltd., Toronto, Ontario, Carestation Health Centres, Vancouver BC, Canadian Medical Solutions, Tottenham, Ontario, Arrowsmith Lodge, Parksville, BC and Lark Group, Surrey BC.

The RFP process closed June 3, 2010 and two submissions were received. In following Fair Business Practice, there is limited ability to provide further detail regarding submissions received under the RFP process.

VIHA’s RFP review team will evaluate each proposal based on a set of criteria. Once the evaluation is complete, the review team will forward its recommendations to VIHA’s Senior Executive and Board of Directors for consideration.

“We are pleased that we are getting closer to realizing our collaborative vision for improved primary health care and urgent care for Oceanside residents and physicians,” said Victoria Power, VIHA Director Primary Health Care & Chronic Disease Management and Rural Health Services.

A primary health care and urgent care facility for the residents of Oceanside is a collaborative vision of the City of Parksville, Town of Qualicum Beach, Regional District of Nanaimo and VIHA. All partners are committed to continuing to work together to turn this vision into a reality for the residents of Oceanside.
