In the coming years, Island Health and other health care organizations will need to fill thousands of positions spanning hundreds of different job categories. Right now is a great time to start planning for a future career in health care!

Meet people working in a variety of health care positions and settings.  Our registered nurses, psychiatric nurses, doctors, social workers, audiologists, protection services officers, midwives, medical lab technologists, dietitians and Aboriginal liaison nurses will be on hand to answer your career questions. Learn what their day-to-day work is like, their educational path, and find out who they work with on a daily basis. Some booths will feature hands-on demonstrations like blood pressure monitoring for students and community to experience.

The event is a collaborative effort between School District 72 and Island Health. The career fair is open to all students and families beginning at 1:00pm and open to the public between 3:00 and 5:00pm.  Island Health’s Aboriginal Employment Team members are the key coordinators and will be on hand to lead fun activities such as a photo booth and provide information on the various career opportunities within Island Health while promoting their employment support services to Aboriginal job seekers.

The Health Care Career Fair will also feature booths from post-secondary schools (University of British Columbia, North Island College, Vancouver Island University, Discovery College, Nicola Valley Institute of Technology), other health care organizations (First Nations Health Authority, Life Labs, Communitas Supportive Care Society, Ocean Grove Midwifery, Campbell River and District Association for Community Living, Kwakiutl District Health), Balfour Beatty (contracted service provider for housekeeping services), as well as local employment agencies (Metis Employment and Training,  North Vancouver Island Aboriginal Training Society, The Job Shop and North Island Employment Foundation Society).
