“Infection control is a key priority for VIHA,” said Howard Waldner, VIHA CEO. “Negative pressure rooms are designed with a ventilation system in which air is pulled through the room to the outside so that contaminated air cannot escape to other parts of the facility, and they are important to preventing the spread of infectious diseases within the health care setting.”
The cost of the negative pressure room is $426,000.
The nursing station area has expanded by approximately 50 square feet, and provides adequate space for staff, computers, a resource room and a staff washroom.
“We are pleased to be able to provide improved working conditions for our staff and a higher standard of care to the patients served by the Tofino General Hospital,” said Kathryn Kilpatrick, Site Administrator.
The nursing station improvements, totaling $425,000, bring operations to current standards of practice and establish a higher standard of infection control, while new siding and paint to the outside creates a professional looking facility.
This $850,000 renovation project was cost-shared with VIHA and the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional Hospital District.
“Anytime we can provide improvements to our hospital means that we have improved the lives of everyone in our communities who require care,” said Hira Chopra, Chair, Alberni-Clayoquot Regional Hospital District.
During the renovation the patient lounge and TV room was temporarily closed and we thank everyone for their cooperation for that inconvenience. The end result provides a great improvement to the hospital and to the West Coast communities that it serves.
