VIHA Infection Prevention and Control conducted hand hygiene audits across the health authority in February 2010. The results show compliance and “would be compliance”, which is what compliance would be if staff completed hand hygiene appropriately and did NOT wear a watch, rings with stones, artificial nails or nails with nail polish.

Dr. Richard Stanwick, VIHA's Chief Medical Health Officer, conducted a health assessment of air quality in the James Bay area of Victoria. The health assessment was based on 2009 data collected during the third phase of an air quality study.

This review explores Salt Spring Island’s continuum of health care services, highlights changing demographics and expected population growth as well as the health status of residents, and identifies how residents currently use health services. Decisions basedon this review will result in health services that are safe, of high quality, and sustainable, and that best satisfy the health needs of Salt Spring Island residents. In 2009, the Centre for Rural Health Research conducted a consultation on maternity services in Tofino and the surrounding catchment. The goal of this project was to undertake a community-based consultation with key stakeholders in the rural BC communities comprising the Tofino General Hospital catchment to determine the health service delivery conditions necessary to support sustainable local maternity services.

The Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) strives to improve patients’ satisfaction with the care they receive in hospitals. VIHA collects information about patients’ perception of the care they received through surveys to identify opportunities for improvement. This report presents the results of the 2008 inpatient survey.

Following an outbreak of Clostridium difficile (C Diff) at Nanaimo General Regional Hospital (NRGH) that began in June 2008, VIHA commissioned two expert reports to provide recommendations on how to improve the health authority’s response to, and management of, the outbreak. Read the News Release
