In collaboration with our many valued partners and in alignment with government’s strategic direction, Island Health is transforming the health system to better meet the needs of the people we serve and support our vision of “Excellent health and care for everyone, everywhere, every time.”
B.C. Health Priorities
The Ministry of Health released “Setting Priorities for the B.C. Health System” which presents the strategic plan for British Columbia’s health system and the strategic and operational priorities for the delivery of health services across the province.
Island Health Priorities
Island Health is committed to achieving the vision and health system goals set by government with a focus on:
- supporting the health and wellbeing of our residents,
- delivering responsive and effective health care services, and
- ensuring the best value for money in accordance with the Taxpayer Accountability Principles (pdf).
To support strategic planning and community engagement, Island Health has created Community Profiles for areas across Vancouver Island. These profiles describe community health, including many of the factors that contribute to and detract from health such as economic status, education, housing, justice and health services. Links to the summary profiles are provided below. For more detailed profiles and more information on data sources, please visit our Local Health Area Profiles site.
