Aboriginal Health Career Workshops

The Island Health Aboriginal Health Career Workshop is a unique approach towards increasing the number of Aboriginal peoples employed by Island Health. It was developed to give students from grade 8 to 12 an introduction to understanding what it takes to become a health professional. The workshop focuses on six health careers. Students are challenged to produce presentations to their peers and win prizes in a highly skilled quiz based on the knowledge gained.

In the workshop students learn:  about key health careers, time management, grammatical correctness, public speaking, self confidence and of course… have fun!

Steve Sxwithul'txw administers a workshop

The workshop is 1.5 to 2 hours in length and delivered in a classroom setting. There are no requirements for schools or First Nations status, and it is brought to you by Island Health, free of charge on Vancouver Island.
