Salt Spring Island is the largest, most highly populated of the southern Gulf Islands with approximately 12,000 permanent residents. It is easily accessible with regular ferry sailings on three different routes including Vancouver. Salt Spring has three elementary schools, a middle school and high school.

Lady Minto Hospital
Lady Minto Hospital is the southern Gulf Island's primary care hospital located in the heart of Salt Spring Island. With 20 acute care, 4 emergency and 29 residential care beds, it is the largest rural hospital within the Island Health region.
Lady Minto Hospital hires a wide variety of healthcare workers in such areas as food service, office support, laundry, housekeeping, nursing unit assistants and care aides. The Health Clinics are located on Galiano Island, Mayne Island, Pender Island and Saturna Island. All islands have the ability for emergency air transport to hospitals on Vancouver Island or the Mainland.
