Job Summary

Reporting to the Chief Medical Health Officer, the Medical Health Officer - Central Island (MHOCI) is part of a multidisciplinary public health team that aims to continually improve the health and well being of the population of Central Vancouver Island (Health Delivery Area 42).

The MHOCI provides medical co-leadership to public health activities in the Central Island, promotes effective preventive health policies and core public health programs. The MHOCI provides direction to various disciplines engaged in public health service in Central Vancouver Island and is responsible for enforcing all public health legislation throughout the Central Island region.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience

• Medical Doctor, with Fellowship in Community Medicine, preferably with a master’s degree in a related field.
• Experience in all aspects of community health and core public health programs.
• Medical License from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.

Demonstrated Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrated leadership ability and highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to client focused services and teamwork.
• Ability to integrate administrative, professional and operational aspects of the department
  throughout the Vancouver Island Health Authority in an effective and efficient manner.
• Ability to develop and nurture an environment where quality improvement principles are embraced and used on a continuous basis.
