Job Summary

The Department of Psychiatry of Island Health has a 6 month locum opportunity for a full time psychiatrist providing Adult General Psychiatry services.

The General Psychiatric Service is a core component of the Victoria Mental Health Center located at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. The General Psychiatry Service is a community mental health outpatient clinic focused on people with severe persistent mental illnesses including Psychotic Disorders, Bipolar Disorders and Severe Depressive Disorders. Patients may have comorbid, anxiety disorders, personality disorders medical conditions and addictions.

In this position you will work collaborative with interdisciplinary teams including case managers, nursing, occupational therapy and psychology working together providing comprehensive recovery orientated and PSR informed care.  Collaborative care integrating primary care partners and working closely with family and social networks of patients is part of the clinical model.

On call responsibility is mandatory for VIHA psychiatry services.


Education, Training and Experience

• Eligible for licensure in psychiatry with the College of  Physicians and Surgeons of BC
• FRCPC Psychiatry
• Relevant experience working with this population is an asset
• Strong Commitment to collaborative team-based interdisciplinary practice and excellent communication skills are essential
