Job Summary

The Cowichan Valley Department of Psychiatry with the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) is seeking a General Practitioner who is interested in joining the Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) program working in the Cowichan District Hospital (CDH) with the emergency room crisis response MHSU team and the In-Patient Unit (IPU) team.

In the CDH Emergency Room and IPU the successful candidate will work with the Crisis Response Team (next day service) and participate in screening referrals to Psychiatry and participate in care planning, including the decision to admit to the CDH IPU. In addition, the successful candidate will work with the IPU team as the Most Responsible Practitioner for patients who do not have an admitting GP, and will plan and deliver in-patient care.

The core functions within each team are clinical assessment of patients referred from inside or outside the team, collaborating with other clinicians connected to those patients, and to expedite treatment.

Eligible applicants will hold or be eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC.

Eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC)

Additional training and/or enhanced skills in Psychiatry
