Job Summary

The Division of Internal Medicine at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital has openings for additional full-time General Internists.

Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) is the primary referral centre for central Vancouver Island, providing services to an immediate population of 125,000 and secondary referral services for a population of 330,000.  The hospital has 224 beds with excellent diagnostic services. There is a dedicated (closed) ICU managed by Intensivists, renal dialysis unit and a cancer centre. Hospitalists provide much of the daily care.

A Cardiology program has been initiated and Internists provide Cardiology coverage while on Internal Medicine call with the one Cardiologist currently at NRGH. Internists with an interest and good background in Cardiology may also participate in the Cardiology call group.

Island Health is interested in developing a Complex Medical Care unit to manage patients with more complicated medical problems with the purpose of improving patient care and reducing length of stay. Selected discharged patients will be seen on site at a follow up clinic.  Internists participating in this service will be on site and will receive adequate compensation for services provided.

Eligible applicants must hold Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Internal Medicine and be eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC.  The successful candidate will join the Division of Internal Medicine at NRGH and participate in paid on-call coverage. The applicant will also be expected to participate in a rotation covering the Complex Medical Care Unit.
