Job Summary

The Nanaimo site of the Vancouver Island Department of Renal Services has immediate need for a full-time nephrology physician.

The Vancouver Island Health Authority coordinates the delivery of health care to the nearly 800,000 residents of Vancouver Island and the many surrounding Islands. Our full-service renal program has now been open in Nanaimo for 6.5 years. Facilities include an 18 station hospital-based in-centre hemodialysis unit, a Home Dialysis Clinic (peritoneal and hemodialysis), 3 community dialysis facilities and a multi-disciplinary Central Island Kidney Care and Transplant Clinic.  Together these facilities support the care of approximately 210 dialysis patients and several thousand CKD patients living in the Central and North Island.

The Central Island Nephrology group is presently comprised of five nephrologists working in Nanaimo.  We function in a cross-coverage service model where there is shared care of inpatient services and in-center dialysis patients, alongside CKD, HHD, PD and transplant clinics.  All Nephrologists also run independent office practices which account for approximately 30% of clinical time.

We are seeking an individual with training, skills and experience in all aspects of clinical nephrology - hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, pre and post-transplant care, hypertension and general clinical nephrology.  Training, experience and interest in Transplantation or Medical Administration will be valued.

The successful applicant will have FRCPC designations in Internal Medicine and have completed fellowship training in Nephrology.  They will work with a group of hard-working, team-oriented and patient-focused renal care providers.
