Job Summary

The Department of Psychiatry at Mental Health and Substance Use – Cowichan Valley has an opportunity for a permanent psychiatrist to join a collegial team of 6 Psychiatrists.  We seek a psychiatrist to support community consultation and involvement with our multidisciplinary Short Team Services.  Applicants with ECT training will be considered an asset. 

The Cowichan Valley has a wide variety of Mental Health and Substance Use services across the continuum.  Community services consist of Short Term Services – ASTAT and Crisis Response; Longer Term Services – Community Support Team and EPI; Substance Use Services – Adult Outpatient clinic as well as community mental health and substance use staff providing housing services, psychosocial and rehab services and a wide variety of other individual, group and outreach contacts.  The area is also home to a 27 bed regional Adult Tertiary Unit at Cowichan Lodge and has just received approval to begin planning for a local ACT team.  Our inpatient services are provided at CDH with a 15-bed inpatient psychiatry unit.

Involvement in the Island Medical Program undergraduate and postgraduate teaching program is a requirement of this position. In Duncan, there is a strong focus on undergraduate medical education and family practice residents. 

 

Qualifications


Education, Training and Experience

  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) Eligible - Mandatory
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) - Desired
  • Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia
  • Experience in collaborative, multidisciplinary, community psychogeriatric care  required.
