Located north of Victoria, the Saanich Peninsula is made up of the municipalities of Central and North Saanich, and the City of Sidney, with a population of 38,000. It boasts a long shoreline with sandy beaches, is home of the world-famous Butchart Gardens, and has quick access to the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal (to Vancouver) and the Victoria International Airport.

Job Summary

The Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) Department of Surgical Services is seeking a comprehensive Ophthalmologist to join the Division of Ophthalmology to provide general Ophthalmology services to the community and subspecialist services to the region.

Eligible applicants hold Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Ophthalmology and are eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. Subspecialty training in uveitis and medical retina is preferred.

Through the Eye Clinic at Royal Jubilee Hospital the successful candidate would have access to a fluorescein angiography unit, ophthalmic ultrasound, diode and YAG lasers and a fully equipped treatment room for minor surgical procedures. The successful candidate will also have regular surgical time in clinic 6 for cataract and other eye surgery, and regular OR time at Saanich Peninsula Hospital. There would also be time available at the laser clinic at Saanich Peninsula Hospital.

There will be an expectation that the successful candidate will have their primary ophthalmologic office/practice on the Saanich Peninsula.

Full participation on the on call schedule is an expectation of this position.

Education, Training and Experience

Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) certification in Ophthalmology
College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC) – Full Licensure or eligible for full licensure
Subspecialty training in uveitis and medical retina preferred – one year fellow training in uveitis and medical ophthalmology.
