Job Summary

The Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) is seeking a full
time Orthopedic Surgeon to join the North Island Campbell River
Hospital located in Campbell River commencing early 2018.
The successful candidate will hold FRCSC qualification in Orthopedic
Surgery and be eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians
and Surgeons of BC.

The successful applicant will have exemplary interpersonal skills, the
ability to work collaboratively within the healthcare environment and
demonstrate technical competence in providing orthopedic care.
The successful candidate must be competent and comfortable in
performing total joint arthroplasty. Foot and ankle / arthroplasty
fellowships desirable but not a prerequisite.

The practice includes flexible operating room time based on waitlist and
urgency. There is a very large waitlist of patients to be seen in
consultation. Orthopedics generally receives a generous portion of the
OR time at this site. One day of cast clinic at the hospital per week
expected. Out of hospital office time up the successful candidate. On
call duties are shared with Comox Valley Campus, typically 1 in 6.
There is the possibility of joining one of the 2 existing orthopedic
surgery offices.

The recently opened North Island Campbell River Hospital serves a
referral population of greater than 60,000. Surgical services include
Orthopedics, General Surgery, ENT, Plastics, Ob/Gyn, Urology and
Dental. The hospital has a closed ICU, diagnostic (including CT,
ultrasound and MRI) and interventional radiology.

Island Health is affiliated with the UBC Faculty of Medicine and this site
participates in the training of Strathcona Family Practice Residency
Program residents who are based at Campbell River General Hospital.
