Home Birth

Although the majority of births in Canada take place in a hospital setting, many cultures around the world consider birth at home normal and natural. A home birth may provide you with the level of comfort and the atmosphere you desire for your child’s birth.

If you plan to give birth at home, you will need to find a midwife in your area. Discuss with your midwife whether home birth is an option for you. She will assess any complications or risks associated with your pregnancy and help you determine whether a home birth would be right for you and your baby.

At any time during the course of your pregnancy or labour and delivery at home, your midwife may recommend that a delivery in the hospital would be safer for you and your baby.
