Emotional Changes

How you experience your pregnancy will depend largely on your own situation and personality. There is no right or wrong way to feel. It may be helpful to know that many women go through similar emotional stages as their bodies adjust to the physical and hormonal demands of pregnancy and parenthood.

Some common emotional changes include:

  • a sense of unreality or denial
  • sudden, unexpected mood swings from euphoria to tears
  • irritability
  • heightened self-awareness and focus
  • feelings of anxiety and doubt about becoming a parent
  • excitement and impatience
  • fear of labour
  • nesting instincts as birth approaches
