What are we?
Men's peer support. We focus on the needs of men in their journeys through a contemporary world.
At some point everyone struggles with events in their lives, and the emotions that we go through at that time can be overwhelming. When there is a need to sort things out, or when mental or emotional distress seems to take over, peer support can help.
One on one support with:
- Relationship issues
- Illness
- Money worries
- Anger management
- Sexuality
- Stress
- Distress over changes in marriage or career
Background
Moving forward with a commitment to improving services, a group of men in the community who recognized the need for better resources met with the Nursing Centre staff in 2000. This resulted in a very successful Men's Health Forum in November 2000.
A group of men living with a range of life transitions continued to meet with a group facilitator in 2001- 2002.
In the fall of 2006 we partnered with the Comox Valley Prostate Cancer Support Group, St. Joseph's Hospital Lab and the North Island College Nursing Students to host an all day event that included free PSA testing.
Today
Jonathan Buchanan provides one on one support. No appointment is required. Please call the Centre for additional hours of service.
Group activities have variable dates and times.
