"By physicians, for physicians - connecting and sharing intelligence, ideas, and innovation, supporting challenges among communities, reducing geographic, institutional, interpersonal and knowledge barriers."
The Department of Family Practice works with and supports family physicians across all communities within the Vancouver Island Health Authority.
Lead by a Department Head appointed by the VIHA Board of Directors, we monitor the quality of medical care provided to patients by members of the department of Family Practice at all VIHA sites. We establish policies and procedures in consultation with the department's members and report regularly on the activities of the department to the HAMAC and to the VIHA Board.
The Department of Family Practice hosts a Family Practice Council that meets monthly to review current initiatives, report on activities of the Department, learn about island-wide Health Authority initiatives and seek feedback from site chiefs and other members regarding site-specific or regional issues of concern.
