Welcome to Island Health

On August 1 st, we launched our new public website:

and a new website for medical staff:

Our website was developed in partnership with patients and residents of Vancouver Island and the surrounding regions. It's accessible, mobile friendly and flexible to help us evolve with our communities as we work towards excellent health and care for everyone, everywhere, every time.

Come visit the new sites and update your bookmarks. This www.viha.ca site will continue to be available for one month so that our staff and partners have time to update their links to the new site. You can still browse the old site but it will no longer be updated.

Influenza (Flu)

Seasonal influenza, often called the flu, is a serious, infectious and contagious respiratory illness. You can spread the flu 24 hours before showing any symptoms, and five to seven days after symptoms begin. Learn more about the flu

Visiting an Island Health facility

From December through April, to help protect against the flu, all visitors will be expected to wear a mask in our facilities if they have not had a flu shot. Look for masks near main entrances, hand washing stations or at reception/admitting.

For more information, please read our Frequently Asked Questions (pdf) and Influenza Prevention Policy (pdf).

Working at an Island Health facility

Volunteers and anyone working at our patient care sites are required to be immunized against influenza or wear a mask during influenza season, from December through March.
