Language, Culture or Religious Affiliation
Luther Court is a faith-based organization, which values a holistic approach to caring for the whole person- physical, spiritual, intellectual and emotional. Our roots are in the Lutheran community but we are a very open community and welcome people of all backgrounds, cultures, languages and faiths.
Philosophy of Care
In compassionate Christian love, we sustain and improve the quality of life for seniors by providing care, shelter, support and community interaction. We do this by providing a spectrum of programs and services to enrich the physical, spiritual, intellectual and emotional lives of those we serve.
The model is a socially based model which has a number of differences from the more traditional medically based model.
The model operates out of the assumption that Luther Court is a person's home. The people who live here are not in a hospital. And though there is ready access to the best practice in terms of medical knowledge and nursing care, the first and primary focus is that this is the person's home. It is here that they participate in all the day-to-day activities that are essential for life and also those pursuits which impart particular meaning and purpose to the individual. Everyone has a place at the table. All of this is lived out within a community of care.
Accreditation is an external peer review process to assess and improve the services health care organizations provide to their patients and clients, based on standards of excellence set by Accreditation Canada. For more information, visit here - http://www.accreditation.ca/
Luther Court Society has been awarded a four year exemplary standing by Accreditation Canada in its recent survey, the highest level of achievement currently awarded by Accreditation Canada. The achievement demonstrates the organization’s determination and commitment to ongoing quality improvement. The review body applauded the leadership team, staff and board members for their efforts and dedication in the provision of safe, quality health services to elders. An additional honour was bestowed on Luther Court Society by Accreditation Canada for two Leading Practice submissions and were presented to Luther Court Executive Director, Karen Johnson-Lefsrud in a recognition event at Accreditation Canada’s annual Quality Council, held in Gatineau, Quebec, on April 10, 2014. Leading Practices are awarded for innovative and creative practices that are client or family-centered, evaluated, sustainable, able to demonstrate their intended results and adaptable to other organizations. Only two organizations in British Columbia, of which one was Luther Court, were awarded Leading Practice citations in 2013. Luther Court’s submissions were: “Innovative Nursing Model: Enhancing Full Scope Practice “- a model that has been of interest to Island Health and is currently being trialed as a pilot project to determine its effectiveness for other organizations. The second leading practice is “Enabling Transformative Practice” whereby an intentional process is enacted that supports Luther Court’s commitment to providing excellence in clinical care through comprehensive education programs that transform practice.
