    Building Description

    Rancher style, one storey building located at the corner of Cedar Hill Cross Road and Richmond Road.  Built in the 1960s, it is predominantly 4 bed ward-style rooms with some semi-private and private rooms.  The site has two beautiful internal gardens/courtyards, two dining rooms, an activity room, two family rooms, one tub room, a hair dressing room, gift shop and reading nook. The site does not have overhead lifts but does have lifts on wheels.  The building is older but very clean and well-maintained. The site is not secure and has only a keypad entry system.

    Mount Tolmie Hospital has two dining rooms, two internal gardens/courtyards, two family/community visiting rooms, one activity room, a hairdressing area, gift shop and a reading nook.

    Neighbourhood/Community Amenities

    The facility is located just south of the base of Mount Tolmie in the municipality of Saanich.  It is very close to the Shelbourne plaza and the University of Victoria.  It is also relatively close to Hillside Shopping Centre and the Mckenzie Avenue amenities.

    Type of Accommodation

    72 beds in total, divided into the following:

    • 9 – 4 bed ward rooms which share a toilet and sink, and have a large window that runs the length of the room that overlooks the courtyard or exterior of property
    • 14 semi-private rooms with a shared toilet and sink, and either a courtyard or exterior property view
    • 9 private rooms which are reserved for clinical need only and cannot be transferred into internally.

    Cost

    Residents pay up to 80% of their after-tax income which covers the cost of food and accommodation.

    • The site can only accommodate 4 power wheelchairs at one time.

    Visiting Information

    No restricted visiting times but visitors asked to be mindful of shared accommodations.

    During influenza season (typically December-March), to help protect patients from the flu, all visitors will be expected to wear a mask in our facilities if they have not had a flu shot.     Note:  Provincial policy requires all visitors to be informed:  "Violence, foul language and abusive behaviours are not acceptable. Verbal threats or acts of violence will not be tolerated and may result in removal from this facility and/or prosecution."

    Any Other Amenities

    The site holds Resident and Family Council meetings 4 - 5 times per year.  In 2019, Mount Tolmie Hospital staff and residents will amalgamate with the staff and resident population of Oak Bay Lodge, and move to a brand new facility called The Summit, currently being built on Hillside Avenue.
