Building Description

The three story building provides private accommodations on second and third floor, with recreational, dining, administrative, and support services on first floor.

Building Amenities

The facility features a dining room/lounge on each of the residential floors, a dining room, a lounge, an activities room and a hair salon on the main floor, as well as access to a secure fenced garden featuring a courtyard, water feature, and walk way.

Neighbourhood/Community Amenities

Rest Haven Lodge is located one block from the Sidney Branch of the Vancouver Island Regional Library and Shoal Center. The commercial area of Sidney is only a few blocks away.

All services are provided in the English language.

Type of Accommodation

Rest Haven Lodge offers 73 private, furnished rooms. Residents may bring personal items to help make their room feel like home. The rooms include a small bathroom (toilet and sink), hospital style bed, bedside table, desk and a chair. A cable TV outlet, phone jack and call bell system are also installed in each room. Rooms on third floor are equipped with overhead ceiling lifts.


Residents pay up to 80% of their after-tax income which covers the cost of food and accommodation.

Special Recreational Opportunities

Rest Haven Lodge offers music therapy, daily exercise, knitting club, dinner club which meets once per month for a themed meal, a variety of entertainment programs, and weekly bus trip to various events or locations aboard our wheelchair accessible bus.


The building entrances and exits are wheelchair accessible and there are two elevators available to access the resident rooms.

Motorized Scooter Policy

Electric wheelchairs and scooters are not permitted.

Pet Policy

No pets are permitted to reside in the facility but are permitted for day visits when accompanied by an individual.

Smoking Policy

We are a non-smoking facility both inside the building and on the grounds.

Safety/Security Features

There is 24-hour surveillance in all public areas. All exit doors are coded; however, we are not considered a 'locked' facility and therefore, are not able to accommodate people who are at risk for elopement. There is 24-hour staffing onsite. There is a nurse call bell in every bathroom and beside every bed. There are safety handrails are provided throughout all of the corridors in the building. The building is equipped with smoke detectors and a fire sprinkler system. The fire alarm system is monitored. Monthly fire drills are conducted to keep staff up to date on fire procedures.

Families are welcome to celebrate special events with their family members here at the facility and we can make space available to you. Please make arrangements through our activities co-ordinator.

Visiting Information

Families and friends are welcome to visit at any reasonable hour. Children and pre-approved pet visitors are always appreciated. You are asked to sign our guest log when you visit.

During influenza season (typically December-March), to help protect patients from the flu, all visitors will be expected to wear a mask in our facilities if they have not had a flu shot. For more information, please read our Frequently Asked Questions (PDF) and Influenza Protection Policy (PDF).

Note:  Provincial policy requires all visitors to be informed:  "Violence, foul language and abusive behaviours are not acceptable. Verbal threats or acts of violence will not be tolerated and may result in removal from this facility and/or prosecution."
