Building Description

Sidney Care Home is situated on a 1-acre lot, 2 blocks from downtown Sidney. It is a 1-storey building, wood frame construction, with gardens on three sides.

Building Amenities

The building features a large lounge/activities room, dining room, enclosed courtyards, hair salon, and extensive garden areas.

Neighbourhood/Community Amenities

We are two short blocks from Beacon Avenue (downtown Sidney), and five shorter blocks to the ocean.  Sidney-by-the-Sea is a well-known retirement community, with the third oldest population base in Canada.  The climate is mild and slightly drier than Victoria, our city to the south.

Accreditation Status

Sidney Care Home has not undergone the Accreditation process.
Accreditation is an external peer review process to assess and improve the services health care organizations provide to their patients and clients, based on standards of excellence set by Accreditation Canada. For more information, visit here: http://www.accreditation.ca/en/default.aspx.

Philosophy of Care

Our mission: To provide comprehensive, complete, and compassionate care to our elderly residents, who require specialized support for their individual, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs.
“Let Care Be Our Long-term Commitment.”

Is Accommodation Private or Shared?

Both

Type of Accommodation

We have 44 single rooms and 5 shared (double) rooms; all complex care beds.

Cost

Residents pay up to 80% of their after-tax income which covers the cost of food and accommodation.

Special Recreational Opportunities

We offer specialized activities, suitable for complex care residents, as well as walking through our outdoor areas (weather permitting), and daily exercise routines for those able to participate.

Accessibility

We are a secured facility, with locked exterior gates.

Motorized Scooter Policy

For safety reasons, we do not allow motorized scooters.

Pet Policy

Briefly: residents are not permitted to have pets, but visitors are encouraged to bring well-behaved pets for visits.

Smoking Policy

We adhere to the Ministry of Health directives which forbid smoking on the property, for all staff.  We do not have a separate smoker’s lounge, so a resident who smokes would be problematic for us.

Safety/Security Features

We are a secured facility, with locked gates/doors, and some video surveillance.

Facility-Specific Restrictions

As noted above, we would have difficulty with residents who smoke.  Otherwise, we accept a broad range of complex care residents, restricted only by a limited number of overhead lifts.

Any Other Amenities

All food is prepared fresh daily and on-site.  All of our rooms are on one level, ground-level, so there are no elevators for elderly residents to deal with, and exterior access is greatly simplified
