Building Description

Located in the Western Community of Esquimalt, Sunset Lodge is situated on the Gorge Waterway and features upper and lower gardens. Sunset Lodge has 108 private rooms on three levels.

All private rooms, hair salon, therapeutic gardens, chapel, lounges on each floor, dining rooms on each floor.

YMCA, barber shop, Spiral Café, Esquimalt Recreation Center, Tillicum Mall.

Type of Accommodation

Sunset Lodge has 108 beds on three levels. All are private rooms with private bathrooms. Garden views and some Gorge Waterway views.


Residents pay 80% of their after-tax income which covers the cost of food and accommodation.

Special Recreational Opportunities

Art Therapist, Music Therapist, Sunset Lodge owned bus, Activity Worker on each floor seven days per week. Dementia Care specific programming.


Wheelchair accessible with elevators.

Motorized Scooter Policy

No motorized scooters.

Pet Policy

No live-in pets. Family members are encouraged to bring pets in for visits with their loved ones. P.A.T.S. weekly visits.

Smoking Policy

No staff or visitor smoking on the premises. Residents can smoke in the outside designated area only and only if they are safe to do so unsupervised.

Facility-specific Restrictions

No motorized scooters, no alcohol without physician orders.

Safety/Security Features

Twenty-four hour staffing, cameras, key padded gates, key padded doors and elevators.

Foot care nurse, Dental hygienist and denturist, Occupational Therapist, Tuck Shop, Adult Day Program.

Visitors must sign in and out.

Note:  Provincial policy requires all visitors to be informed:  "Violence, foul language and abusive behaviours are not acceptable. Verbal threats or acts of violence will not be tolerated and may result in removal from this facility and/or prosecution.”
