How do I get medical supplies and equipment at home?
We do not provide long-term medical supplies or equipment for your use at home. However, the following information may help you:
- Some individuals have access to funding for equipment in the home. Common funders include:
- Individuals with extended medical benefits (ie: Blue Cross, SunLife, etc), depending on their plan, may have access to equipment funding.
- Seniors Serving Seniors publishes a list of businesses in Greater Victoria offering a variety of equipment and supplies. You can also find businesses that offer medical equipment and supplies by looking in the Yellow Pages, doing an Internet search of "medical supplies," or word of mouth.
- Searching HealthLink BC directory using the keywords "medical equipment/supplies" for local loan cupboards in your area.
If you wish to receive palliative care at home and may be in the last six months of life, you can ask your doctor to help you apply to the BC Palliative Care Benefits Program. This program provides palliative medications, and some medical supplies and equipment at no charge to eligible clients.
How do I use the equipment?
Our Home Care Clinicians can help you learn to use equipment designed to improve your safety at home (such as bath seats, grab bars, scooters, walkers, wheelchairs and lifts).
