Description

Newly built (2004) apartment building for seniors 55+ or younger person on disability benefits. The building was developed by the Esquimalt Lions Seniors Housing Society and is operated by Victoria Senior Citizens Housing Society. The building is 3 stories with 2 elevators for access and has a landscaped patio-garden area outside the main floor dining area.

Indoor Features

A common area is available on the main floor for dining and activities. The secured parking area has 20 designated and 5 open parking spaces. The property is near St. Pauls Church area of Esquimalt. There is a bus stop at the front of the building and the neighbourhood has accessible sidewalks.

Unit Features

  • One-bedroom suites with balconies and full kitchen facilities.
  • Each suite has an in-suite storage area.
  • Walk-in showers and grab rails mounted for safety
  • Tenants can install washers/dryers in units.
  • Two purpose built wheelchair accessible apartments are available on the main floor with dishwasher and lower level washer/dryer installed.

Emergency Response

  • Pendant-style personal alarm system providing 24 hour emergency response.

Cost

  • Residents pay 70% of their after-tax income for the full package of services.
  • Residents under age 65 receiving income assistance pay a pre-determined set rate.
  • Residents with higher incomes pay up to a maximum amount based on comparative private services.

Exit Criteria

  • If an individual experiences a permanent decline in their health condition, a significant increase in care needs, or an inability to make decisions on their own behalf that cannot be reversed, a move from Assisted Living to a more appropriate setting will be necessary
  • A VIHA Home and Community Care Case Manager will assist with this process as required.
