Description

The complex is co-located with a Seniors Recreation complex and across the street from the Library, 4 blocks from the main street of Sidney. The building is linked to a private condominium development (54 units) and all owners/tenants may utilize services that are available in the setting at an additional cost. Health related retail space is on the lower level. 

Indoor Features

The first two floors of the building are community activity space that includes a chapel and multiple recreation areas with two floors of assisted living units above. There are lounge areas on each floor, and a common dining area and hospitality bar open for community use on the first floor.

Unit Features

  • 24 small one-bedroom aparmtents with bedroom area partially separated from the main lounge area of the suite.
  • Bathrooms have walk-in showers and are fully accessible.
  • 6 larger one-bedroom units with kitchen and wheelchair adaptable bathrooms are available for couples or persons with equipment needs.

Emergency Response

  • 24 hour on-site emergency response with pendant-style personal alrm system.
  • Site is staffed 24 hours a day with care aides.

Environmental Considerations

  • Manual wheelchair, power wheelchair and scooter use throughout.
  • Fully adaptable for track lifts.

Cost

  • Residents pay 70% of their after-tax income for the full package of services.
  • Residents under age 65 receiving income assistance pay a pre-determined set rate.
  • Residents with higher incomes pay up to a maxiumum amount based on comparative private services.
  • This setting is funded by Independent Living BC.

Exit Criteria

  • If an individual experiences a permanent decline in their health condition, a significant increase in care needs, or an inability to make decisions on their own behalf that cannot be reversed, a move from Assisted Living to a more appropriate setting will be necessary
  • A VIHA Home and Community Care Case Manager will assist with this process as required.
