Infection Prevention and Control

The Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) Infection Prevention and Control Program provides expertise in infection prevention and control related matters across all programs.

There are three main partners in the prevention and control of infectious diseases within VIHA facilities and communities:

  • The Infection Prevention and Control Program is facility-based. The Infection Prevention and Control Practitioners have expertise in preventing the spread of disease among patients and residents.

  • The Medical Health Office provides information and support related to disease and disease management in the community and in contracted facilities.  The Infection Prevention and Control Program works closely with the community Medical Health Officers, Communicable Disease Nurses and the Environmental Health Officers.

  • The Wellness & Safety Program is able to assist staff members with their questions about exposures, vaccinations, workplace requirements, and WorkSafe BC issues.
