Acute and Short-Term Services

Acute Inpatient Care

• Acute Inpatient Services at St. Joseph's General Hospital provides stabilization of acute psychiatric symptoms in a safe environment.

Urgent and Short Term Treatment

• Adult Short Term Assessment and Treatment Team (ASTAT) provides service to adults with serious short-term mental health conditions.
• Developmental Disability Mental Health Team (DDMHT) provides consultation and assessment services ONLY.  Serves people fourteen years and older with a demonstrated developmental disability and co-occurring mental illness.

Addiction Services

• Addiction Services provides services to adults wanting to make changes related to their pattern of using substances.
• St. Joseph's General Hospital, in addition to Acute Inpatient Services, provides Substance Intervention.

Case Management

• Adult Community Support Services Team (ACSS) provides outreach case management services to adults with severe and persistent mental illness.

Early Psychosis Intervention

• St. Joseph's General Hospital, in addition to Acute Inpatient Services, provides The Adolescent Outreach Services.

Psychiatric Outpatient Services

• Adult Community Support Services Team (ACSS) provides outreach case management services to adults with severe and persistent mental illness.
• Developmental Disability Mental Health Team (DDMHT) provides consultation and assessment services ONLY.  Serves people fourteen years and older with a demonstrated developmental disability and co-occurring mental illness.

Psychosocial Rehabilitation

• Rehabilitation Program provides occupational therapy, supported independent living services and vocational support services to registered clients of Mental Health and Addiction Services. 
• St. Joseph's General Hospital, in addition to Acute Inpatient Services, provides The Adult Day Therapy Program.
• There are numerous contracted community services providing a variety of psychosocial services from vocational rehabilitation to leisure.  Please check the community services directory or the mental health centre in your area for more information.

Residential, Housing and Supported Living Services

• Residential Services include, Family Care Homes, housing subsidies, subsidized apartments and a residential rehabilitation program
• Rehabilitation Program provides supported independent living services.

Seniors' Services

• Seniors Services is for people over age 65 with psychiatric and mental health problems related to aging and/or dementia with associated psychiatric or behavior problems.
• St. Joseph's General Hospital, in addition to Acute Inpatient Services, provides The Upper Island Psychogeriatric Outreach Program.

VIHA's Child and Youth Mental Health and Youth and Family Addiction Services are delivered separately.
