This page contains information about Island Health's Adult Mental Health and Substance Use Services for Nanaimo including Lantzville, Gabriola Island, and Cedar.  We provide a range of mental health and substance use services to adults in the Nanaimo area. Services may be provided in hospital, the community or in your own home. Programs are designed to support clients achieve maximum independence.

Access/Crisis Services provides general intake for all Adult Mental Health and Addiction Services for the Nanaimo area as well as crisis response. To contact the Crisis Response Team call the 24-Hour Vancouver Island Crisis Line 1.888.494.3888.  The hours of the Crisis Response Team are 8:00 am - 9:30 pm.

Acute Inpatient Services provides acute inpatient assessment and treatment.

Adult Short Term Assessment and Treatment Team (ASTAT) provides services to adults with serious short-term mental health conditions.  

Withdrawal Management  is provided at Clearview Detox

Adult Substance Use Services Team provides services to adults affected by or at risk of developing alcohol and other drug-related difficulties.

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) provides rehab support for adults with complex recovery needs ranging from checmial dependency and/or serious mental illness

Community Support Team (CST) provides outreach case management services Intensive Case Management Program provides case management services to adults with complex recovery needs related to co-occurring serious mental illness and serious chemical dependency 

Developmental Disability Mental Health Team (DDMHT) provides consultation and assessment services ONLY.  Serves people fourteen years and older with a demonstrated developmental disability and co-occurring mental illness

Outpatient Psychiatry provides specialized psychiatric consultation

Residential/Housing Support Program provides specialized residential or community housing support
