UV Tanning Beds

The World Health Organization classifies ultraviolet (UV) tanning beds as a “group one carcinogen”. This means they are known to cause cancer in humans. For more information, please read:

Tanning Bylaw (Capital Regional District)

All commercial tanning facilities within the Capital Regional District that provide UV tanning must comply with the Capital Regional District Health Bylaw # 3711 (.pdf), which:

• prohibits UV tanning for minors under the age of 18 years, and
• outlines requirements for salon owners and adults 18 years of age and older
• lists fines associated with Tanning Bylaw Infractions

Facility Operators

• Complete the Tanning Facility Information Form (.pdf) and send it to Health Protection and Environmental Services (Gateway Office).
• Sign for posting beside each piece of UV tanning equipment: Warning Sign (.pdf)
