Tobacco Control Act

All retailers who sell tobacco in this region are checked a minimum of 4 times every year to assess compliance with legislation governing the sale of tobacco to minors. The majority of retailers checked (90%), do not sell tobacco when checked by the minors who work in this program.

For those who sell tobacco to minors, most receive a warning letter and/or an educational visit from the Tobacco Enforcement Officers outlining the requirements of the regulation.

If a retailer continues to sell tobacco to minors, the penalties can be significant.
